You bring the game
kaillera-next doesn't host, share or link to ROMs. You drop your own copy of Super Smash Bros. 64 onto the page. It's read in your browser and never uploaded anywhere.
- Super Smash Bros. (US)
- Smash Remix 2.0.0 (US)
- Smash Remix 2.0.1 (US)
No ROM? You can still watch any open room.
How it works
Create a room and send the link. Friends open it on a laptop or a phone.
Everyone drops their own ROM. The host presses Start.
Up to 4 players. Spectators welcome. Keyboard, gamepad or on-screen controls. On a phone, an Xbox controller over Bluetooth works too. Other gamepads your browser recognizes should work; you can remap buttons once you're in a room.
Why it feels close to the couch
Rollback netplay runs the game at full speed on your machine and predicts what your opponent pressed. When a prediction misses, it rewinds a few frames and replays, quietly. The network lag is still there; rollback hides it from you. Under about 150 ms of round trip, it feels like playing offline. Lockstep, the old way, waits the full round trip on every frame.
Don't take our word for it.
Since 2001
Kaillera, by Christophe Thibault, let a generation play N64 online. A dozen servers and clients carried it for twenty years. kaillera-next is the same idea with nothing to install and rollback netcode.
